Friend in Jesus

Friend in Jesus
Familiar refrain
Yet in reality
What does it mean

When world walks out
And He still stays
When He’s my all
What do I have

Relentless Pursuer
Perfect compatibility
Everlasting Friend
Unwavering loyalty

Totally understands me
Patiently puts up with me
Never hates me
Faithfully forgives me

No wrong intentions
No bitter resentment
No hidden sins
No selfish jealousy

Owner of all riches
Possessor of all power
Outside of all time
Dependability without rival

Communication choice intriguing
Not succinct or with a text
Sixty six handwritten books
Crafted over centuries instead

A word for every occasion
Encouragement overflowing
Tender rebukes interspersed
Gentle reminders well-timed

Every moment
He wants me
Every detail
Holds His attention

Unlimited bandwidth
No need for voicemail
Always listening
Never put on hold

Empathy never lacking
Advocate at all times
Interceding incessantly
My safest safe person

When I awake
He’s right there
When I sleep
He’s by my side

Instinct to comfort me
Exceeds the perfect mom
Ability to protect me
Excels the perfect dad

Covid and Communism
Can’t force Him out
Enters every facility
Penetrates every country

Never moves away
Never betrays
Never, ever, ever
Ever unfriends

When world walks out
And He’s my all
Consummate Friend
Is what I have

Jesus says in John 15:12-17, “‘This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends, if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. This I command you, that you love one another.’”

Psalm 139
