Jesus was rejected and abandoned. Left all alone. What did the Son of Man do to earn such resounding rejection? Absolutely nothing. He was perfect. Luke 22 documents the inconceivable. Why did the Messiah knowingly subject Himself to such excruciating abandonment? He endured it all for you. He endured it all for me. Our salvation was at stake. Rejection was the only path He could take.
Now for the truth that hits me hard: A disciple is not above his master (Matthew 10:24). Why do I expect unconditional love from those closest to me when my Master did not receive that from one single person in His lifetime? How much rejection are we willing to endure for our Master during this vapor of a life?
Yet when encountering rejection, confidently know that comfort abounds. II Corinthians 1:3-5, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.” God has limitless comfort for every single one of His children for every single rejection.
When encountering rejection, confidently know that being rejected by man does not mean we are worthless. If rejection automatically decreed worthlessness, it would have been impossible for Jesus to be rejected. Reading Luke 22 over and over offers comfort as we comprehend that Jesus intimately knows rejection yet it clearly is no fault of His.
When encountering rejection, confidently know that for the true Christian, a sweet eternal atmosphere awaits containing only pure love, acceptance, and harmony in every single relationship. Forever. No abandonment. No rejection. No sorrow. No tears. No pain. Ever again. (Revelation 21) Because our Savior endured unfathomable rejection, our feelings of rejection have an expiration date! Praise God!
